90-Day Bible Reading Plan: Finished Works

90 Day Grace Reading Plan
Most Bible reading plans are about covering ground. This one is about changing ground — the ground beneath your feet, the way you stand before God. The OPF 90-Day Grace Reading Plan walks you through the New Testament's most powerful passages on grace, identity, and the finished work of Christ — guided by daily confessions, reflection prompts, and space to write what God is speaking to you. Rooted in Grace— and anchored in Scripture, itself.
Start where you are. Grace will take it from there.

Aligning Our Expectations with God's Will

Many believers grapple with the perplexity of unanswered prayers, observing others who seem to experience continuous breakthroughs. This disparity often stems from a misalignment between our expectations of God and His divine expectations of us. Cultivating a proper perspective is crucial for fostering a dynamic and fulfilling relationship with our Creator.

The Lame Beggar at the Beautiful Gate

In Acts 3, we encounter the story of a man lame from birth, who daily sought alms at the temple's Beautiful Gate. Upon seeing Peter and John, he requested financial assistance. Recognizing his deeper need, Peter declared, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk" (Acts 3:6). Instantly, the man was healed, leaping up and praising God. This narrative underscores several pivotal lessons:

  1. Divine Insight into Human Needs: Peter and John, embodying God's ambassadors, discerned the man's fundamental need beyond his immediate request for money. Similarly, God perceives our true necessities, even when we are unaware of them ourselves.
  2. Elevating Expectations: The beggar anticipated monetary aid but received a transformative healing instead. This illustrates that God's provisions often surpass our limited expectations, addressing not just superficial desires but our profound needs.
  3. Faith Manifested Through Action: The man's response—leaping up and entering the temple—demonstrates active faith. He believed in the power of Jesus' name and acted upon it, exemplifying that genuine faith propels us into action.

The Centurion's Exemplary Faith

Matthew 8:5-13 recounts the account of a Roman centurion who approached Jesus on behalf of his paralyzed servant. Acknowledging Jesus' authority, he expressed confidence that a mere word from Him would suffice for healing. Jesus marveled at his faith, stating, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!" (Matthew 8:10). The servant was healed at that very moment. This episode highlights:

  1. Recognition of Divine Authority: The centurion understood the extent of Jesus' command over all circumstances, paralleling it with his own military authority. This acknowledgment is crucial for aligning our expectations with God's sovereign power.
  2. Intercessory Faith: The centurion's plea on behalf of his servant exemplifies the potency of interceding for others, reflecting a selfless faith that seeks the well-being of others.

The Woman with the Issue of Blood

In Luke 8:43-48, we learn of a woman who had suffered from a bleeding condition for twelve years. Despite exhausting her resources on physicians without relief, she believed that touching the hem of Jesus' garment would heal her. Upon doing so, her bleeding ceased immediately. Jesus acknowledged her action, saying, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace" (Luke 8:48). This narrative emphasizes:

  1. Persistent Faith Amidst Desperation: The woman's determination, despite years of suffering and failed treatments, showcases a steadfast faith that refuses to waver.
  2. Personal Initiative in Faith: Her deliberate act of reaching out to Jesus signifies that faith often requires us to take bold steps toward Christ, trusting in His power to transform our circumstances.

Raising of Jairus' Daughter

Immediately following the previous account, Luke 8 also describes Jesus raising Jairus' daughter from the dead. Amidst the mourners' skepticism, Jesus permitted only the girl's parents and a few disciples to witness the miracle. This selective inclusion underscores the importance of:

  1. Cultivating an Atmosphere of Faith: Surrounding ourselves with individuals who share a belief in God's power can significantly impact the manifestation of His works in our lives.
  2. Excluding Doubt and Unbelief: Jesus' decision to limit the witnesses serves as a reminder to guard our environments against negativity and skepticism that can hinder our faith.

Aligning Our Desires with God's Will

While faith is integral to our relationship with God, it must be accompanied by an understanding of His will. James 1:6-8 warns against double-mindedness, emphasizing the necessity of unwavering faith when seeking wisdom from God. A vacillating heart can obstruct the reception of divine guidance.

Furthermore, 1 John 2:15-17 cautions believers against loving worldly things, highlighting that such affections are incompatible with a genuine love for the Father. Our prayers and expectations should, therefore, be rooted in a desire for God's kingdom and righteousness rather than personal gain.

James 4:3 addresses the issue of misguided prayers: "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." This verse serves as a poignant reminder to examine the motives behind our requests, ensuring they align with God's purposes rather than selfish ambitions.

Praying in Jesus' Name

Jesus assures us in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." Praying in Jesus' name entails more than a ritualistic phrase; it signifies aligning our requests with His character and will. As 1 John 5:14 elucidates, confidence in prayer stems from asking according to His will, knowing that He hears us.

God's Omniscience and Our Trust

Matthew 6:8 reminds us that our Father knows what we need before we ask Him. This awareness should cultivate a trust that transcends anxiety, leading us to seek His kingdom first, as emphasized in Matthew 6:33. Prioritizing God's kingdom assures us that our essential needs will be provided.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Ephesians 1:3-6 reveals that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ, having chosen us before the foundation of the world. Recognizing these blessings shifts our focus from temporal desires to eternal riches, fostering contentment and gratitude.

Experiencing Divine Peace

Philippians 4:6-7 exhorts believers to present their requests to God with thanksgiving, promising that His peace, which surpasses understanding, will guard our hearts and minds. This peace is not contingent on external circumstances but is a divine assurance that accompanies trust in God's sovereignty.

Our Expectations Show Our Faith

Aligning our expectations with God's will involves recognizing His authority, approaching Him with pure motives, and trusting in His omniscience. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, engaging in sincere prayer, and seeking wise counsel, we cultivate a faith that not only anticipates God's provisions but also aligns with His divine purposes. As we navigate our spiritual journeys, let us remain steadfast, seeking first His kingdom and righteousness, assured that all necessary things will be added unto us.
