90-Day Bible Reading Plan: Finished Works

90 Day Grace Reading Plan
Most Bible reading plans are about covering ground. This one is about changing ground — the ground beneath your feet, the way you stand before God. The OPF 90-Day Grace Reading Plan walks you through the New Testament's most powerful passages on grace, identity, and the finished work of Christ — guided by daily confessions, reflection prompts, and space to write what God is speaking to you. Rooted in Grace— and anchored in Scripture, itself.
Start where you are. Grace will take it from there.

Staying in Alignment with Our Renewed Spiritual Nature as a Christian

As believers in Jesus Christ, we are not merely striving to improve our old nature. We are reborn, made entirely new through the redemptive power of Christ. This new nature is not a theoretical ideal—it is a living reality. Scripture boldly declares, "But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16, KJV). With the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, we have an internal guide, an ocean of anointing, from which to draw wisdom and strength. As 1 John 2:20 affirms, "But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things."

In our daily lives, this renewed nature confronts us with choices—some clear, some costly. At times, obedience means we must swear to our own hurt and remain steadfast, as Psalm 15:4 describes: honoring our word even when it causes personal sacrifice. Yet such fidelity is not only a witness to others but also a profound way to remain in intimacy with God. It is about tracking with Christ, living in alignment with His character, and staying true to our renewed spiritual identity.

Our Identity in Christ

When we were born again, something miraculous occurred. 2 Corinthians 5:17 makes it plain: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." Dr. Andrew Wommack puts it this way in his teaching on spirit, soul, and body: “Your born-again spirit is identical in righteousness and holiness to Jesus Christ. The rest of the Christian life is about renewing your mind and manifesting that reality in the physical realm.” In essence, we are not working to become holy—we are holy in spirit—and our task is to align the rest of our being with that truth.

This alignment begins with our thoughts. Having the mind of Christ means more than quoting Scripture or thinking religious thoughts. It means we have access to the same spiritual perception Christ had. The Holy Spirit enables us to discern truth, make godly decisions, and interpret life from heaven’s perspective. As Tim Keller once noted, “The gospel doesn't just free us from the penalty of sin but also from the power of sin. That includes the mental slavery of trying to figure out life apart from God.”

The Role of the Holy Spirit

1 John 2:20 tells us that we have an unction from the Holy One—this “unction,” or anointing, is the Holy Spirit Himself. He teaches us, leads us, and reminds us of who we are. Creflo Dollar emphasizes this point: “The Holy Spirit is not some mysterious force; He is your counselor, your coach, your comforter. He’s in you to help you win.” This divine presence means that when faced with difficult choices, we often already know what is right. The difficulty lies not in clarity but in courage—the willingness to act on what the Spirit has revealed.

Swearing to Our Own Hurt

Psalm 15 describes the kind of person who may dwell in the presence of the Lord: one who “swears to his own hurt and does not change.” This level of integrity demands that we prioritize obedience over comfort. In a culture obsessed with convenience, God calls us to faithfulness. R.C. Sproul once said, “Holiness is not merely abstaining from sin; it’s the commitment to righteousness, even when it is inconvenient.” True spiritual alignment may cost us friendships, opportunities, or personal ease, but it secures something far greater: the unwavering presence of God.

Reflecting Christ in the World

Living in alignment with our spiritual nature means we become visible representations of Christ. Genesis tells us that humanity was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Through Christ, that image is restored. Charles Spurgeon described it beautifully: “A Christian should be a striking likeness of Jesus Christ. If we were what we profess to be, we should be pictures of Christ.” Our lives, then, should mirror the humility, love, and holiness of our Savior.

This representation is not for others alone—it nourishes our relationship with God. As we walk in obedience, we protect the intimacy we share with Him. Sin and compromise grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) and dull our spiritual senses. Conversely, when we live according to our new nature, we experience the joy, peace, and assurance of abiding in God’s presence. As Creflo Dollar explains, “Righteousness is not something you do—it’s who you are in Christ. But your decisions can either affirm or deny that reality.”

Simple, Not Always Easy

It’s important to recognize that alignment doesn’t always feel easy. In fact, the right choice is often the harder one. Jesus made this clear: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Obedience requires self-denial. It demands dying to our own agenda. As Tim Keller wisely said, “The gospel gives us a new identity, not achieved but received. But living out that identity requires dying to the old self again and again.”

In this journey, we will find ourselves at odds with our own preferences. Yet as we yield, we discover that God’s will is always superior to our own. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us, “There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” Andrew Wommack often teaches that “True success is not in doing your own thing, but in finding out what God’s will is and doing it.” When we align with His purposes, we find clarity, peace, and eternal significance.

The Rewards of Spiritual Alignment

The benefits of this spiritual alignment are profound. When we stay connected to our new nature, we experience peace and joy that are unaffected by circumstances (Romans 14:17). We grow in spiritual discernment (Hebrews 5:14), become stronger witnesses to others (Matthew 5:16), and avoid the inner turmoil that comes from a divided heart (James 1:8). Most importantly, we remain in unbroken fellowship with God (1 John 1:6–7).

Staying in alignment with our renewed spiritual nature is not about achieving perfection but about pursuing consistency. It is about returning to the truth again and again, choosing to believe what God has said about us, and acting on that belief. Psalm 15:4 challenges us to honor our commitments, even when they come at a cost. This kind of faithfulness marks those who dwell in the presence of the Lord.

Charles Spurgeon once remarked, “We are not saved by obedience, for obedience is the result of salvation. But we are saved unto obedience.” In other words, our obedience doesn’t earn God’s love—it expresses it. And through it, we stay true to who we are, who Christ is in us, and what God has purposed for our lives.

Let us then press on—not by striving in the flesh, but by yielding to the Spirit. Let us walk in step with our new nature, reflecting the image of Christ to the world and remaining in rich, unshakable fellowship with our Father. In doing so, we not only glorify God but also discover the deep joy of living in true alignment with who we were created and redeemed to be.
